I guess I am back!

So, I moved my blog a few months ago over to a self hosted wordpress and everything was FANTASTIC! Until of course, some hacker named Gabby from Indonesia decided to ransack my blog and I have no way of getting into it to fix it. I contacted my webhost (who by the way sucks balls) and explained to them the situation. It took them roughly 2+ weeks to get back to me and when they finally did, I got the run around.

Mind you, I have emailed back and forth with them about 6 or so times and I keep getting the same response. *sigh* What part of "I need to know SPECIFICALLY what you are asking for before I can give it to you.." Do they NOT understand?!? *le sigh* So, after insisting they cancel my services and go screw themselves, I am back here. I lost a good majority of what I posted over there and it almost brings me to tears, but I have learned my lesson about going with cheap instead of trusted. UGH!

So here is to a new love affair with Blogger, and hopefully regaining all my followers once again. :)

Happy Reading everyone!

This book gets a 4 from me

Awesome comes in four different flavors!

Photobucket

and here is why…

Overall I think the book is a good read. The story was fresh (to me), it was nicely detailed, and at parts nothing could keep me from reading. The parts I didn’t care so much for were the beginning, the short leap to love, and the lack of background in certain areas. I think this book could have been an excellent read if some things were tweaked just a smidgeon. Let me pick apart my issues and explain them.
First, I would like to say that the synopsis for this book does not in any way do it justice (go peek at Goodreads if you want a better one.). I was given the synopsis by the author and I wasn’t completely sold on the book, so I stalked it out a little and found a more intriguing version (yes, I was shameless and read some reviews too). It paid off to do a little more legwork though. :D
Secondly, I have to comment on the beginning of the book. I’m not sure if it was the squinting I had to do on my eReader because the font was so small, or if it was just that the beginning seemed to just draaaaaaaggggggg on. I picked up the book, read a few pages, and set it down. I wouldn’t come back to it for a couple of days and then I would rinse and repeat the same cycle. It was a slower pace than I like, but it was great at baiting you with gore right off the jump. I think setting the tone for Marcus and Travis(the FBI agents) is what did me in. Maybe if we would have seen Warren first and experienced his snippet of the story and THEN were introduced to the gore and the FBI, I wouldn’t have been so hard on it. I knew right away though, that as soon as Warren came into the picture, that he was the culprit. I would have liked the chance to ‘love’ him before I knew he was a harbinger of mutilation though. lol
Thirdly, I think the love in the book was rather superficial. Almost like we were being forced to believe that there was real love between the main characters but it never really got to that point for me. I believed there was true loyalty and an amazing amount of sacrifice between them but true love just wasn’t there. =/ At one point in the book, there was a scene that made me think our heroine was a reincarnation or maybe a link to someone significant in his past but Ute never elaborated on it and it was kind of forgotten. Had he added to that and I had been right, then maybe the love connection would have been authentic for me (at least from Warrens end). Maybe I just expect a lot out of ‘love’ in books. Aside from my questioning of the authenticity though, the love was good. ♥
I think that is all for my real complaints. The rest of the book was just amazing. Ute brought Egyptian Mythology to the forefront when werewolves and vampires seem to reign supreme, and he made it a current and exotic contender. It wasn’t stuffy and boring and if I had been a tactics/action/suspense nut this would have been 5 stars all the way. I’ve heard Ute compared to James Patterson, Dean Coontz, and Stephen King and I have to say that I agree. He is very comparable to all three and he is great at putting you in the middle of all the action. lol Edge of my seat and all that. :P
I was really hard on the book while I was reading it because I wanted more background, less skipping around, and a better sense of love, but as soon as things started to fall into place and you knew it was about to get ugly is when I started to really respect it. Ute is incredibly knowledgeable and has a way of making you feel intellectually inferior. >.< haha That in and of itself is worth my respect! I really did love the book and I hope someone turns it into a movie. The last half of the book could be a movie by itself and I would pay $8.00 to see just that. ♥
I am in the midst of reading Timeless Conflict: The Amons which is the second installment in the series and I am excited to see where it takes me this time.

Rakshasa Review

Title: RakshasaAuthor:
Alica Knight
Source: eBook from Amazon
Date Published: October 30, 2012
 Links: Amazon / Goodreads
Libby the Loser. That’s what everyone used to call me behind my back. I wasn’t popular, I wasn’t strong, I wasn’t brave.
All that changed after a chance encounter in a Canberra nightclub. Afterward, I began to dream; dream I was something else. A powerful creature of muscles and claws, something powerful and confident and everything I wasn’t.
I dreamed I was in love with a man I’d barely met.
The dream world is a beautiful, wondrous place, but there’s a shadow in my dreams. An eclipse, broken with a gunshot. Then I wake up.
Now my dreams are coming true. My body is changing for real. I’m shedding Libby the Loser like an old skin. I’m growing into something else.
But there are others. Others like me, and they don’t get along. People are disappearing. People are dying.
The shadow is falling over the real world, too, and everything has changed.

This book gets a 3 from me and here is why…

Good read, but could have been Great.
Photobucket

OKay, let’s talk Rakshasa part 1 – not Book 1, just part 1. It gets a three from me but only because it ended before it started. Had it been the whole book and not the beginning of a serial, I would have easily given it a 4.5 or 5.
I was directed toward this book via a free kindle ebooks group and figured what the hell… It’s free, the cover is HOT, and it might just tickle my fancy. If it doesn’t, then no worries cause it was free. ;) One little click and my life may be changed forever… dun dun dun.
So I get up this morning all bright eyed and bushy tailed, (okay, that part is a lie. It was 6:30a.m. and I was looking forward to a fight with my kids about getting ready for school, but I digress) I crack open my eReader and I prepare myself for a steamy journey through uncharted Indian culture. I’m not very well versed in most cultures so this was going to be exciting. When I started reading however, I felt strange. You know how you walk in on a movie and it’s only maybe 30 minutes in, and no matter how hard you try to pick up what is going on, you can’t? That’s how this book felt for me. I can’t place why it felt strange but I can single out the good and bad aspects of the book and let you decide if I am right. ;)
First complaint is that it was wayyyyyyyy too short. Just when it started to get really good, and things were sort of falling into place, it ENDED. What the hell?!?
Dear Alica Knight, on my incredibly long list of pet peeves the one thing that sits up top, is the ending of a story prematurely. I get that you want to do it in pieces, but don’t nudge the hormone cauldron and then call it a day. Way uncool!”
^^^^ Yeah, this was me at roughly 7:15a.m. after I huffed and closed my eReader. I almost googled to see if I could find some fanfiction to appease the hungry beast but alas, here I sit channeling my irritation into a review and using my powers for good. lol Onward ho to the next book, I spose.
Second complaint is that I had a hard time differentiating between dream sequences and reality. I mean, it’s not rocket science so I feel like a tool for suggesting it, but the writing was a bit cloudy in certain sections and I had to stop and think and re-read to make sure I was on the same page as the writer (haha, see what I did there?). That can take away from the overall feel of the book for me. If I spend more time trying to deduce and assemble than I am reading, then it almost loses it’s appeal. =/
Third and final complaint is that I wanted for ‘Libby the loser’ to be more accessible. I aligned myself more with the bar hopping floozy of a best friend than I did with Libby (Who is actually Elizabeth, btw. o_O). Make Libby more accessible and relate-able. She could have been anyone and no one and the only thing making me want to be in her shoes, was Ishan (I need a second to drool). Ishan didn’t really get a shining role and the two things that stick out for me about him, is bright blue eyes and white fur. Yeah, don’t ask… it is what it is. heh I wanted him to be more memorable than a sexy piece of la la land ass. Oh, and I would have liked that he didn’t hop from “ohmigod I can’t touch her because she is from another clan” to “Hey baby, let’s get it on.” He was like a hyper-charged supernatural teenage boy who still believed in cooties. It made me sad. =( <----- See that sad face? This is serious business folks!
I was surprised to learn that Alica Knight (a pen name of course) is in fact a member of the male persuasion. I read through the whole book and never once thought that anyone other than a woman had written it. It was a little on the safe side with the 'sensuality' but most works are if they aren't written for the erotica genre. Still, the fact that he pulled it off and I was never the wiser, is something to be commended.
Even with my complaints, I still really liked the book. Sure it wasn't perfect and a great number of things could have been changed or tweaked, but it was still a good read. It would have been better if I didn't have to buy the whole book in 5 different pieces but it's still attention worthy. Maybe next time I will look a little more closely to make sure the book I get isn't a serial. Lesson Learned! Who knows, I may pick up the rest of the books at some point if I see they are free again but until then I will sit and stew over what is and what could be. >.<

ReVamp Review

Title: ReVampAuthor: Beck ShermanSource: eBook from AuthorDate Published: March 31, 2012Links: Amazon / Goodreads

FOR THREE DAYS, IT WAS DARK.
News reporters scrambled. This was the biggest story to come along in weeks.
They called it a blackout.
The last one was in New York City in 2003, but this one was different, special, because the grids in six major cities across the country had been fried, kaput, see-you-next-Sunday. Everyone with some jurisdiction blamed each other, and when there was no one left to blame, terrorism rode in on its gallant steed.
It was the media’s fault. They were so busy stuffing fanatical Muslims with a penchant for Allah and decapitations down the American citizen’s throat, that they never saw it coming. I guess I shouldn’t be too hard on them.
They were partially right.
It was terror after all, but a whole new kind. And when the lights came back on, things had changed.
The dark had brought us visitors.

This book gets a 5 from me

So Epic that there are literally NO words!

and here is why….
I have said many a time that I am sick and tired of worn out same shit Vampire stories and that I tend to shy away from them. This book however was so badass, that it renewed my faith in supernatural authors and their horror writing abilities. That and I just can’t stop talking about it. lol Take everything you have seen about Vampires in the last like 6 years and just throw it out the window (Yes, even True Blood. Don’t pout!). The age of glittery, emo, veggie fangers are over… it’s once again time for the dark, twisted, insatiable blood addicted, reapers of carnage to return. WOOHOO!!!! *does some soul train happy dance*
I almost gave the book a 4 because I was butthurt that there wasn’t a happily ever after but then I sat and thought about it and realized that not every book needs or should have a happily ever after. In this case, the book was much better without that ending. I won’t lie and say that I was happy about it because I wasn’t. I wanted Em and Cooper to get together and ride off into the sunset with silver stakes in hand. I mean sure, they bonded and no doubt had their own version of a relationship but I wanted some huggy, smoochy, post apocalyptic freaky goin on. I did let it slide though, because the horror and gore factor MORE than made up for my lack of stereotypical mush. ♥ ♥

I also was upset that we didn’t find out what happened to Josie or Sullivan. I felt like they had a pretty big role in the story and then it just ended. I mean, what happened after Em hung up with Sullivan at LAX? Did Josie’s freak boyfriend make her into late night brunch? What happened to the one eyed gyno from hell? Soooooo many questions that I felt were unanswered but I am telling myself that Beck MUST have a master plan for it. lol I hope that said master plan is in the form of another book. That would make me squee bounce into next year. : )P The ending was also something you NEVER expected but it was a great surprise and I loved every minute of it!

This book may not have been the greatest piece of fiction ever written in history, but it spoke to me on many a level and I just fell in love with it. I think the biggest contributing factor for that, was definitely the characters.

You have Josie, the rebellious silver spoon baby that everyone wants to hate but for some reason they are friends with. She has very few redeeming characteristics but you still kinda like her anyway.

Sullivan is the British sexy rocker that has been swallowed by commitment issues and groupie syndrome. He kind of has a hippie approach on life. lol The laid back “Hey man… let’s all make love and spread it around.” type of deal and he just seems spaced out. I was secretly hoping that Em would kick him to the curb though. >.<

Cooper is my hero!! You know he loves him some Emma but there is an awkwardness there that neither him nor Emma care to acknowledge beyond said awkwardness. He has a strong sense of togetherness and is very protective of his friends. He tries to always do the right thing even if it means losing someone along the way and having to live with that guilt. He was just a great character and I think that he was just the right amount of hero without being pushy and arrogant.

Emma… dear sweet self doubting and unsuspecting Emma. Right off the bat I fell for her. She was real and mouthy and smart. A psych major who refused to be duped. A warrior that was afraid and a little shaky but always came out on top. A survivalist at times and a stupidly loyal friend at others. I hate heroines who are know it all’s and immediately morph into a bad ass when problems arise. They throw caution to the wind and are like a she-hulk with terminator type powers. It’s unbelievable and it almost gives women a false sense of hope. If we lived our lives like some of these women in apocalyptic type settings, we would most assuredly be toast. lol As sad as that is, you can’t deny that it’s true. If we were faced with zombies, most of us would either be food or another member of the undead horde. Most of us would panic and scramble for the fastest way out. We wouldn’t face the shit head on like we were invincible and actually believe that. So it’s nice that I have a heroine I can relate to. The obstacles she faced and the way she handled them and then came out the other side is very realistic and I love that. That is something I can wrap my head around and put some weight behind. WOOHOO for realism!! :D

Scott reminded me of Commander Nathaniel Taylor from the show Terra Nova. Old and wise for his years and just a natural born leader. His struggles have made him who he is and without those struggles or that knowledge he would be damn near useless. He is for sure the brains and the bones of the rebellion but I wouldn’t say he is the spirit of it.
Mabon is a character that you will never love or hate. He lives in the grey area of this book and everything he does comes with strings. You can sympathize with him about the world of crap he has been through but you can’t agree with his actions as a result of it. You can empathize with his anger and hatred about being done wrong but again, you can’t condone his actions. We all have a basic human need for revenge when someone or something has taken from us or harmed us or seemingly ruined our lives. The difference is that most of us know better than to act on that need. This is where Mabon glitched. He was so angry and so sick with revenge in his human life that it carried over with him to the immortal ever after. Again, it’s a grey area. You want to champion him for serving up justice but you also want to damn him for taking it as far as he did. I can see his reasoning, I just don’t agree with it. =/ He is like the physical manifestation of an EMP. Once he goes off, everything stops and the new world order begins.
Leech…. I can’t really say anything about Leech because I don’t want to be THAT person. All I will say, is that it takes a lot of nerve to prance around the way he did and not expect to get a heaping bowl of holy water all up in his grill. Smug, arrogant Bastard!!
I could go on and on and on about all the characters. I left out Topps and Charlie and Seven and Bugs and Rudy and Sammy and schizo and the whole lot of em. Just because I left them out doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve recognition…. I just want to leave stuff for you guys to sink your teeth into. *wink* You don’t really get Topps, Rudy, or Charlies stories but they are wonderful characters and deserve a lot of love. You will find out when you read the book why I say that (well minus Rudy anyway. lol).

I can’t sing enough praises about this book or it’s author. Beck Sherman did a good job at creeping me the hell out, making me feel just a little better about an impending vampire take over, and giving me back the vampires of old. I will forever be a fan! I hope that there are more books to come and that ReVamp is just one part of a many part series. I need to have closure!! lol

Go give this Author some Love!!

and here is why….
Overall the book was well rounded, so I won’t take that from her, but I felt lost in all of the spanking. *gasp* I am a fan of all things BDSM and I believe in the right to do whatever in the hell you want with your book. That being said, I want to point out that when a book seems rushed, not entirely thought out, and what I would consider the love child of Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, that it loses all the awesomeness that it COULD be. I love vampires (even though Twilight has destroyed them for me), I LOVE spanking, and I love a good old fashioned happy ending. Deathless love had ALL three of those. So I bet you are asking yourself why I gave the book a three and not something higher, right? The answer is simple. It just didn’t hit the spot for me.Was it well written? Yep, it was! Did it make me want more? Yep, it did! So why the long face? I wanted a better villain. I needed less spanking and more sex – it was all spanking, all the time – I yearned for more variety. I craved an original-ish ending that was believable (yes I realize we are talking about vampires here, but I have a standard. lol). I wanted Dom to not be so wishy washy. I guess I just wanted more development.
All the characters seemed copy and pasted. Almost like they were a standard template for any character, they just lacked a name and a purpose. The villain was the same way. Typical evil bitch who wants to conquer and rule all. I don’t recall ever finding out why she was on a crusade to enslave the damned, but I still would like to know what her driving force was.
Dom was woefully distant, and while I can sympathize with his reasoning, I just couldn’t quite nail him down either. He suffered a great loss and was unable and unwilling to let himself be vulnerable again. But all it took was one drunken rockabilly with an affinity for being spanked falling into his lap and the rules instantly change? I just can’t buy into the rapid overturn because it’s not that realistic. =( He bounced back and forth between wanting Kate and then tossing her out. I wanted to backhand him for being a punk at times. But again, it was just that he seemed so frazzled and rushed.
Kate, for me, was like the overly emotional sorority girl. Drunk and falling all over her man crush, hoping that she would be noticed even though every guy in town (even the gay ones) want to bend her over a table and she doesn’t recognize it. *sigh* She tantrums a bit much for my taste but at least she lets it out musically. I have to hand it to Renee for adding in the “You are an a-hole so beg and grovel for forgiveness” music. I immediately opened youtube and started browsing all the songs from the book. Score one for that! ; )
Next up is Fox…. Fox was my main man! I loved him and all his hot musical talent! He is Kate’s band mate and best friend. Does it matter to me that he was gay with no chance of being straight? Hell no! I have to say that he was probably my favorite character in the book aside from Dom. Very easy to relate to, rather well rounded, and just an over all good guy. He can come jam at my house anytime he wants. lol
Stella was fun and sassy and I don’t really have anything to say about her, other than she was a bit snarky at one point and it kinda put a bad taste in my mouth about her after that. Being an unbreakable trio that is suddenly busted up by a silly human, sorta makes you a tad on the cranky side. So I can sympathize to a degree, but I don’t agree with how she handled certain things. >.<
Overall the book was a good read and I enjoyed a lot of things about it. I just wish that it would have made me feel as warm and fuzzy about it as I wanted to be. In the future though, if I am ever in the mood for a book with some hanky panky and a lot of spanky, this is definitely the book I will pick up. Kink and a happily ever after are nothing to snub your nose at. ; )

This book gets a…
Good read, but could have been Great.

because it really could have been a great read. =/
I am having a rather difficult time reviewing this book because I feel like no matter what, it’s going to be unfair. I always give honest reviews but I try to keep them constructive as well. So bear with me and let’s hope we get through this is one piece.
When I started reading the book I found I had a hard time turning the pages. It was almost like I was finding reasons not to read it. Normally I find reasons TO sit and read for as long as possible but I just couldn’t get in a groove with this one. One of the reasons could have been that it started out like a stereotypical love story. Girl has problem – boy falls head over heels at first sight – girl rejects boy based on profiling – you get the idea. That type of predictability bothers me. I want something original or at the very least, a twist on the old and tired. I was drowning in cheese and an overwhelming need to rename the characters. *sigh* I know that it’s a new day and age and that gender neutral names are in, but it gets to be a bit much when I can’t keep the main characters straight when I am reading, because they are so similar.
Not only that, but I felt like the military addition was only in there to attract that particular following of readers. Many women will pick up this book based solely on the fact that the words “U.S. Marine” were in the synopsis. I have to be critical of that as well. Yes, I know that I may be wrong about my assumption, but that is how it felt. Don’t put something in a book just to try and boost your numbers, put it in there because that’s how your character told you it should be. But I digress….
I will say though, that through all the fussing I did over this book, I DID like it! It could have been great if a few things were tweaked, but overall it was just “alright”. The erotica in it was hot, Hot, HOT though!! So if you only care about the erotica portion, then go forth and fan yourself. Just don’t be disappointed if there isn’t as much in there as you would have liked. *sad face*
Don’t judge the book based entirely on what I have said. Go read the other reviews and make a decision based on all of it combined.
Feel Free to Peep out Heather Rodney-Diaz!

Jules and Trevor take advantage of potential suicide victims by encouraging them and profiting off their deaths. When Jules falls in love with their seventh target, she’s forced to make a series of life-or-death decisions and a single, impossible change.

Lighthouse Nights is a frightening novel about haunting regret, maniacal hatred, the longing to create, and ultimate redemption. This fast-paced story is as touching as it is twisted, and highlights a disturbing new trend among American teens.

This book gets

So Epic that there are literally NO words!
 photo 5cuprating.jpg

because yet again, Jake Vander Ark has managed to leave me speechless.

When I read the synopsis for this book, I thought to myself, "There is no possible way he can swing this story and not have it turn out badly! The subject is so taboo, that everyone avoids it or slams it. People will never be receptive to this type of thing."  I thought that surely I was going to have a hard time swallowing this book, and admittedly, it was a rather hard read for me at first.
For as long as I can remember, Suicide has been a dirty word, and I'm sure it always will be. It happens all the time but we try to rationalize it away because it makes us uncomfortable and we want to forget. It has personally touched me in many a different way and I was afraid that my personal views were going to prejudice my opinion of the book. Turns out that it didn't.

This book didn't glorify suicide, it just made you look at it in a different light. A realistic light. One that doesn't try to sway you. It just is what it is.

I commend JVA for taking on something so touchy. He walked us through quite a few different perspectives in the course of this book and they all were relatively spot on.

For instance, I had to choke down the douchebaggery that was Trevor, the psychopath, and remind myself that he was fictitious. He seriously needed to see the inside of a gas chamber. Just sayin'!

Jules - that poor girl - was horribly broken and insecure. She was the typical battered woman who hung on to a dream that was never going to come true. Trevor preyed on her just like all the others he victimized. Constantly kept her down and doubting herself and he used her love for him as a bargaining tool. It was disgusting and so realistic. I didn't really like Jules till the middle of the book. She was an enabler and had little to no respect for human life. She was self destructive until she met Gabe. Gabe was her respite. A place for her to be free of all the stress and death in her life - a place to blossom. I'd venture to say he was the only good thing in her life, ever. Gabe saved her and she destroyed him. She did redeem herself later on however and I just fell in love with her.

Gabe was probably my favorite character in the book. Even when he face dove into prickville, I still loved him. I don’t think that he could have been a greater character, honestly.

As for the book as a whole, I LOVED every single minute of it! So dark and sinister and just twisted – it was almost like an adult Alice in Wonderland but instead of chasing the white rabbit, they were chasing the lives of others. It makes me shiver just thinking about it!
I strongly encourage EVERYONE to pick up this book and be open to not only the story, but to the people within it. You just may know an Emma or John or Blake and this book could be the reason you listen, when you might otherwise have not. Just think about that!
Happy Reading!!! ♥♥
